Grafana offers AI assistant for free, warns users not to go mad

At GrafanaCON 2026 in Barcelona, Grafana Labs introduced several significant AI-focused capabilities, notably making its AI assistant, previously exclusive to the cloud, available for free to open-source and on-premise users. This strategic move aims to tackle the 'AI blind spot' within observability, allowing better monitoring and evaluation of AI systems in real-time. Key announcements included the launch of AI Observability in Grafana Cloud, an enhanced Grafana Assistant, and the new Grafana Cloud CLI (GCX) designed for automated and agent-driven workflows. Additionally, Grafana introduced o11y-bench, an open-source benchmark for assessing AI agents. The company also released Grafana 13 and a re-architected version of its Loki log aggregator. While the potential of AI in observability, such as anomaly detection and root cause analysis, is widely acknowledged, Grafana Labs' 2026 Observability Survey also revealed ongoing concerns about the autonomy of AI actions without adequate oversight. The overarching goal is to integrate AI into the tech stack as a fully observable and controllable component, moving beyond experimentation to reliable production use.
