AI-Powered Law Firm Wins Court Case in English Court Against Human Attorneys

Garfield AI, a pioneering AI-powered law firm, recently achieved a significant milestone by winning a court case in an English court, marking what is believed to be the first instance of an AI lawyer successfully leading a case to victory at trial. The firm assisted Tamires Camal Taquidir, a freelance HR consultant, in recovering an unpaid debt of approximately £7,000. Garfield AI managed the entire pre-trial process, including drafting legal letters, preparing witness statements, and compiling trial bundles, all without direct human lawyer involvement. The client paid around £400 for Garfield AI's services, a fraction of what traditional legal representation might cost. While Garfield AI handled the preparatory work, a junior barrister, Dominic Li, was engaged to represent Ms. Taquidir in court for the advocacy part of the three-hour hearing at Wandsworth County Court. The court ruled in favor of Ms. Taquidir, ordering the repayment of the outstanding debt and dismissing a counterclaim. This event is seen as a landmark moment for access to justice and legal technology, demonstrating the potential for AI to make legal services more affordable and accessible for small businesses and individuals. While the barrister involved acknowledged the clarity and efficiency of Garfield AI's case preparation, he emphasized that advocacy in court remains a fundamentally human exercise. The firm, approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in May 2025, has since handled over 600 claims, mostly settling before trial.
